I get an "application provisioning failed" error when I try to launch my Amazon EMR cluster

When I try to start my Amazon EMR cluster, the cluster fails to start, and I get the error message "application provisioning failed."

Short Description

EMR clusters support multiple configuration options, which are usually deployed through bootstrap actions. When you launch a cluster, Amazon EMR runs bootstrap actions after provisioning the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) instances. After bootstrap actions are completed, Amazon EMR installs the native applications that you specify and makes sure that the cluster is properly configured. If the cluster can't perform these steps, the cluster fails to start, and you get the "application provisioning failed" error message. The most common reason for the problem is the cluster configuration. For example, an EMR cluster fails to start if incorrect credentials are specified for an external Hive metastore.

Resolve Phone PIN Verification Problem For Amazon Affiliate Sign Up

Yesterday when I was signup to the Amazon affiliate program that was not as easy as it sounds. Especially if you are not a U. S. citizen like me.

There was a problem when I try to apply for the Amazon associate program on PIN verification section. That’s only required a US phone number for Amazon to call to verify your PIN.

It’s not like the old days when you can found a bunch of tutorials How to Sign Up for Amazon Affiliate Program on blogs out there. Do not mean to be sarcastic here, but the rule has change.

So after digging and doing some research, I dec >phone call from Amazon to verify my affiliate account.

The first idea comes with try to talk to some US friends on social media and ask them for help. But something stops me from doing that. I don’t feel good to do that. And I don’t want to do that because I don’t want to bother anyone for my own work. So I try to find another way, and yep! finally, I did it. Of course, after a few time failed.

In this post, I will share a trick for you on how to solve the Amazon phone PIN problem. Easy way!

Okay! this is what I’ve done and the resources you need to get the job done! Let’s figure it out!

Download and install “TextNow”

TexNow is a free text and call apps, that support many free country numbers including in the US. The idea is to use it as our virtual US number. You’ve got the point right?

So no more chit-chat just go to TextNow download pages to download the apps, it will give you a choice to download the apps for Mac, Windows, iOS, and Android.

Choose to download the apps for your device you want to use. After you finish download TextNow, install the app.

When successfully install the app, open it. You will be asked to sign up to using TextNow, just fill the form to sign up. When you’ve done, don’t forget to verify your email address.

You have to add a new number in order to use TexNow to receive or sent text and calling as well. You will be ask ed for three digit area code, so type three digit for area code, you can ask google for area code you wish, E. g California area code.

The app will automatically generate your virtual phone number, and you are all in-set now.

[Important!] write down on paper or copy and paste your new number on TextEdit/Mac or notepad/Windows. To use it later for entering your new number on Amazon PIN verification pages.

I believe you already know the procedure on how to sign up for the Amazon affiliates program.

Make sure TextNow app is still running! while you do this. And make sure you wear headphone or your PC/Mac speaker monitor are on.

So! at the Amazon PIN verification page section, which is the last section on the affiliate sign up process. What you have to do is just enter the US phone number you’ve got from your TextNow account. Now you know why I ask you to save the number earlier on TextEdit/Notepad.

[Important!] Make sure you only enter the number without () and – character.

Let the dialed number stay in +1. Then click on “ Call Me Now” button. It will automatically generate your PIN number. And at the same time, you will receive a call from Amazon. See screenshot below for an example of two different situations.

Go to TextNow apps and click accept button to receive phone calls from Amazon. See screenshot.

A man with heavy-deep voice will ask you to confirm the PIN. You can choose to say it with Microphone or just easily type the PIN number in KeyPad in text now app interface. See picture below to open the virtual Phone KeyPad.

In the old version, the KeyPad will pop up! But In the new version of TextNow, the keypad will show on the right panel near the microphone icon. You better type your PIN number quickly!

When you’ve done type your PIN, the man with the heavy-deep-robotic voices will say Thanks to you. Then, in Amazon associates sign up page check the terms of the agreement and click the Finish button.

And congratulation! now you are officially associated with the Amazon affiliate program.

Note and conclusion

But, this is just the beginning. If within 180 days you don’t refer customers and make 3 sales, your application will be rejected. The good news is, you still can request to join the Amazon associates program again after rejected. So, don’t give up!
