Make your products eligible for Deals
A Lightning Deal is a time-bound, promotional offer where an item is featured for a limited number of hours, usually 4 to 12 hours (as determined by Amazon), on the Amazon Deals page. Featuring an item as a Lightning Deal may help increase sales and reduce your inventory. Learn how to use Lightning Deals to help improve your brand awareness and sales.
A 7-Day Deal is a time-bound, promotional offer where an item is featured for a limited number of days on the Amazon Deals page.
To be eligible for Deals, you must be a Professional Seller with at least five Seller Feedback Ratings per month and an overall rating of at least 3.5-stars. Additionally, products must meet these criteria:
- Have a sales history in Amazon stores and at least a 3-star rating Include as many variations as possible Not a restricted product or offensive, embarrassing or inappropriate product Prime eligible in all regions New Condition Compliant with customer product reviews policies. You can create two Deal variations - Lightning Deal and 7-day Deal.
If you meet the criteria for a Deal:
In the Deals Dashboard, click Create a New Deal tab. Select a product in your inventory and click Select. Enter the Schedule, and click Continue to next step. For Lightning Deals, enter Deal price or Discount per unit, and Minimum deal quantity. For 7-day Deals, enter Deal price or Discount per unit for each product.
How can I become eligible?
Currently, only Professional Sellers are eligible to run Deals. Here's how you can upgrade.
Which products are eligible for Deals?
Eligible products are automatically displayed in the Eligible ASINs section of the Deals Dashboard when they meet the following criteria (subject to change based on country and time of year):
- Quality: Products must have a sales history in Amazon stores and at least a 3-star rating. Product variations: Deals should include as many product variations (e. g. size, colour, style etc.) as possible. For some products, such as clothing and shoes, at least 60% of variations should be included in the deal. The pre-determined minimum percentage of product variations are specified when you create the Deal. Category: Restricted products and products that are offensive, embarrassing or otherwise inappropriate are not eligible. Examples of ineligible items include e-cigarettes, alcohol, adult products, medical devices, medicines and baby formula. Fulfillment method: Products must be Prime-eligible in all states including Puerto Rico. You can choose either Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) or Seller Fulfilled Prime in Shipping Settings. Condition: Only items in New Condition are eligible for Deals. Seller Feedback Rating: You must receive a minimum of 5 ratings per month and have at least an overall 3.5-star rating.
You can choose to Create a Deal from the list of eligible ASINs in the Select Products tab of the Deals Dashboard. Eligible ASINs are refreshed every week, so a Deal you see this week may not necessarily be there next week.

I have created 2 Amazon lightning deals for my products (1 successful and 1 not so successful). You can read about my experience creating Amazon lightning deals below.
My experience creating Amazon lightning deals:
In total, I have created 2 Amazon lightning deals for two the same SKU. Both were free from fees.
The 2 lightning deals that I ran were on Amazon. com. I have been creating Amazon lightning deals on Amazon. com but I have not created any Amazon lightning deals on Amazo. co. uk yet. I have been offered two on Amazon. co. uk but I do not have the quantity of stock for it to make sense in the UK now.
I have a product that usually sells for $39.97. The highest price that I could put this lightning deal on for was $31.23. This is because Amazon calculate your average selling price over the last 6 months and you must price your Amazon lightning deal 20% below this price.
I could offer a minimum of 25 units of this product. I selected to offer 40 units at $31.23. Amazon accepted my lightning deal and gave me a date for it (2 weeks after my application date).
All 40 units sold within 2 hours of the Amazon lightning deal running. Over the next 24-48 hours the BSR dropped from 3700 to a low of 1189. After fees and the discount, I made 15% profit per unit on this Amazon lightning deal. This was my first lightning deal and I am extremely happy the result. My product was ranking at the bottom of page 1 for its main keyword and within 2 days of the lightning deal it moved up 1 position. It remained at the bottom of page 1 but it is 1 step closer to the top J. I am unsure how much of an impact the lightning deal had on this but I am confident that it helped.
I have over 1000 units of stock of this product so I was happy to create a lightning deal as soon as I was offered it. I was offered another lightning deal for this product within 1 day of the previous lightning deal. This time I set a sale price of $26.97 and I offered 100 units for the deal.
After creating my second lightning deal, I was excited expecting them all to sell in hours. Weird thing happened though, I only sold 12 units during the lightning deal. I am currently investigating why this lightning deal was such a flop compared with the first one. The first thing that I have noticed is that it was ran during the night, which obviously affects the number of customers on Amazon but I still expected a lot more sales than 12 units. I will update this blog when I find out what else might of contributed to this poor result.
Since I have created this Amazon lightning deal, Amazon have offered me another lightning deal for this product but there is a $300 fee to pay to apply for it. I will not run another Amazon lightning deal for this product until I find the underlying cause of what happened with the last one. But all in all, it has been good and I will defiantly run them again especially if I get offered more free ones.

He raised the price of his product for 3 weeks and then he ran the lightning deal. After the lightning deal was over he calculated the cost. It worked out that he made a $0.20c profit per unit sold during the lightning deal and he got rid of all 300 units of stock that he wanted to get rid of.
Important Things To Know about Amazon lightning deals for sellers:
Ensure that you have enough of inventory to offer an Amazon lightning deal and to remain able to cope with sales after the deal is over.
Know your numbers and ensure that you are still profitable or at least breaking even. Depending on your profit margin you may only break even on a lightning deal but the benefits that a successful lightning deal has on your product rank may make it worth breaking even as you should notice an increase in your organic sales after the lightning deal.
Sometimes Amazon charges you a fee to run an Amazon lightning deal as an FBA seller. (You will see the amount that they will charge you before you create the lightning deal)
Selection criteria for amazon lightning deals for sellers:
In case you have checked and find that you have not been offered an Amazon lightning deal. I have created this list from my own experience and from the experience of a couple of other sellers that I have spoken with in regards to Amazon lightning deals. These are a few points that you may want to consider to improve your chances of being offered the chance to create an Amazon lightning deal.
1. Proposed Amazon lightning Deal Price is 20% or 1more off the average product price for the previous 6 months.
2. Your product must have a sale price of greater than or equal to $5 (US)
3. You must have more than 20 units of inventory in FBA at the time of the deal and application.
4. No Add-On Items.
5. Minimum of 3.5 stars’ average review.
6. Item Condition is listed as New
7. High-Quality Main Image, good title, and complete detail page.
8. Item should be listed as acceptable for gifting. Edit your product listing, click on offer tab and you will see to boxes to tick like in the image below. Tick these boxes to allow customers to order your item gift wrapped.

9. product has been listed on Amazon for 6 + months.
How to Create an Amazon Lightning Deal?

Log into Seller Central account and click on the Advertising tab and then click on the Lightning Deals tab from the drop-down menu. From there you will see the lighting deals dashboard. If you are offered a lightning deal. All you must do to create an Amazon lightning deal after you have been offered one is:
- Set your deal price. Set the quantity that you want to offer to the deal. Set the date that you want to run the deal on.
