The Amazon Rewards Card from Chase has a lot of potential, especially for consumers whose spending center around gas stations, restaurants, drug stores, and (obviously) Amazon. com. When using this card for those purposes, one can expect rewards rates from 2% to 3%, which is on the high end of credit card rewards. On top of great rewards, this card has no annual fee, making it an easy sell. If you are only interested in Amazon. com rewards, or you don’t spend more than $750 per month, other cards such as the Sallie Mae Mastercard, may be prove to be a better value.
Review: Is the Amazon Rewards Card Worth It?
If you frequently make purchases on Amazon. com, and are looking for one credit card to suit all your needs, the Amazon Rewards Card makes a strong argument. With the card, you can get 3% cash back on all your Amazon. com purchases, and 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores (1% back elsewhere). The rewards programs makes this an excellent addition to your wallet, for everyday use as well as getting some savings off your Amazon shopping sprees.
While cards like the Sallie Mae credit card can give you better rewards, they come with a series of restrictions which detract from their value. The Amazon Rewards Card is the only Amazon. com rewards card which comes with unlimited cash back rewards of this scale on Amazon purchases, on top of other categories. If you don’t mind having a card dedicated to only Amazon purchases, and are already an Amazon Prime member, you are better off with the Amazon Store card instead – it offers up to 5% cash back on purchases through the online retailer.
One of our only gripes with the Amazon Rewards Card is its lackluster welcome bonus. Users are greeted with a $30 Amazon. com gift card, upon their account being approved. While cash back credit cards are not generally known for their high bonuses, many competing cards do offer bonuses which make them significantly more attractive to new members – we’ve seen cash back cards offer bonuses as high as $100.
Bottom Line: If you’re searching for a way to save on Amazon. com-related spending, and only want a single credit card in your wallet, then the Amazon Rewards Card may be a good choice for you. We recommend all consumers spend some time seeing whether cards like the Sallie Mae credit card are a better fit for your particular needs.

The Amazon Rewards Card is a straightforward cash back card, which earns users a rebate on all their purchases. Cardholders get 3% back for purchases made at Amazon. com, 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants and drugstores, and 1% back on all other purchases. What you earn with the Amazon Rewards Card are unlimited, and uncapped. Unlike rotating category cash back credit cards, you never have to worry about spending caps or quarterly bonus categories. The rewards rates on this card are set in stone, and so long as you are using it, you know exactly how much cash back you’ll be getting.
Amazon Rewards Card users receive a $30 gift card upon approval of their application. The gift card will be automatically loaded onto your Amazon. com account to be used towards any future purchase. This is one of the rare credit card bonuses which doesn’t require users to meet a minimum spending requirement or even use the card. It kicks in the moment you become a cardmember.
Amazon Rewards Card Cash Back Rewards Program: How do they work?
While the way rewards work on this card is simple, they may cover a wider array of shopping than is obvious at first glance. All purchases through the Amazon Rewards Card card earn users rewards points. These points can then be used to earn cash, gift cards, shopping on Amazon. com, and travel.
3% Cash Back at Amazon. com
All items for sale through Amazon, and affiliated third-party merchants qualify for the 3% discount. This includes things such as Amazon Fresh Orders, as well as Amazon Prime Subscriptions. The 3% cash back offer does not extend to Amazon. com subsidiaries, such as Zappos or Twitch. Furthermore, parts of Amazon which operate outside of the United States, such as Amazon. co. uk also do not qualify for the 3% offer.
2% Cash Back For Gas, Restaurants and Drugstores
The 2% categories depend upon how different merchants classify their business. Each establishment that accepts credit cards registers themselves with a credit card network (VISA, Mastercard, etc.) and puts themselves in a specific business category. Some of these categories might be very specific. For example McDonald’s might classify themselves as a ‘fast food’ business, and Chili’s Bar & Grill might opt to register as a ‘restaurant/bar’. Chase will then group all similar merchant categories into their three main ‘Gas’, ‘Restaurants’ and ‘Drugstores’ categories.
Duane Reade and CVS, for example, will fall under the ‘drugstores’ category – even if you aren’t shopping at their pharmacy section. 7/11 stores are generally classified as a ‘gas station’, even if they don’t have a gas pump outside, and only sell snacks. Amazon Rewards Card cardholders shopping at these locations can take advantage of the 2% savings they’d be getting. For a full list of merchant category codes you may visit Visa’s website, and look up the particular business you are wondering about.

Amazon. com: Amazon Business American Express Card: Credit Card Offers
UPDATE: All offer have expired.
Over the past few months there have been a ton of increased credit card bonus offers where you can really rack up some great points and miles or even put money in your pocket with some cash back! American Express particularly has many offers ending throughout the month of January, so I wanted to get these on your radar in case you are in the market for a new card.
Keep in mind that American Express has put some parameters in place to limit the number of bonus offers you can receive. With American Express you are limited one bonus in a lifetime, so if you’ve already received an offer in the past for the exact same card, unfortunately they most likely will not extend you the offer again. With that being said, there are a few cards that have multiple products, so if you’ve received the offer for one product, you are still eligible for the other products (i. e., Blue Cash EveryDay vs. Blue Cash Preferred). Because of this rule, it is also important to make sure to only apply for a card when it is in fact the highest offer based on past history.
List of Increased American Express Credit Card Offers Ending in January
No Annual Fee Card Offers
- Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express:THIS OFFER IS EXPIRED. Earn up to $300 cash back –> Earn 10% cash back on purchases at Amazon. com in the first 6 months, up to $200. Plus, earn $100 back after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new card within the first 3 months. Apply by 1/11/2017.
- My thoughts: Typically this card comes with a $100 cash back offer, but every now and then they increase the offer to give you additional cash back in a certain spend category, this time being Amazon. Up until this point, there has not been a higher publicly available offer for this card. This is a great no annual fee card for groceries (3% cash back) and U. S. gas stations (2% cash back). - SimplyCash Plus® Business Credit Card from American Express:THIS OFFER IS EXPIRED. Earn up to $500 cash back as a statement for new applications through January 25, 2017 –> Earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $5,000 in qualifying purchases on your Card within the first 6 months of Card Membership. Plus, earn an additional $250 statement credit after you spend an additional $10,000 or more in qualifying purchases on your Card within the first year of Card membership.
- My thoughts: This is a great cash back offer for a no annual fee card. Additionally, you’ll receive 5% cash back at US office supply stores and wireless phone services purchased directly from U. S. wireless providers as well as 3% cash back from two categories of your choice (for example, airfare, hotel rooms, car rentals, gas stations, restaurants, etc.). And since it has no annual fee, if you take advantage of the Amex Offers you can actually make some money just by having the card! - Blue for Business® Credit Card from American Express:THIS OFFER IS EXPIRED. Earn 10x points at U. S. restaurants for the first six months, up to $2,000 in purchases (thereafter you earn 1x point), plus earn 10,000 Membership Reward points after making your first purchase on the card within the first 3 months of Card Membership, plus earn 2x points on all qualifying purchases on the first $50,000 for the first year (thereafter you can 1x point). This card has a $0 annual fee. Offer expires February 1, 2017.
- My thoughts: If you fully maximize the sign up offer, you can ultimately earn 78,000 bonus points on top of the points you’d earn anyways (9 extra points for the first $2,000 in restaurant purchases + 10,000 Membership Reward points + 50,000 extra points on your first $50,000 in spend). Additionally, this card comes with a perk that will give you a 30% annual bonus on based on the past year’s purchases. This card also comes with Amex OPEN benefits and since it is a no annual fee card, is a great card to add to your Amex Offers collection of earning statement credits!
Annual Fee Card Offers
- The Business Platinum® Card from American Express OPEN: THIS CARD IS EXPIRED. Earn up to 100,000 points –> Earn 50,000 Membership Rewards points after you spend $5,000 and an extra 50,000 points after you spend an additional $10,000 all on qualifying purchases within your first 3 months of Card Membership. Expires January 25, 2017.
- My thoughts: This is the highest publicly available offer we’ve seen in a long time. With that being said, there are many targeted offers for this card with the same offer, but not everyone is always eligible. While this card does come with a hefty $450 annual fee, there are MANY perks of the card on top of the sign up bonus. These perks include: $200 airline credit per calendar year (that means you can receive $200 now and another $200 in 2017 which means $400 before next year’s annual fee hits), lounge access, global entry, and Starwood and Hilton Gold elite status (which results in Marriott Gold status too). They also just introduced a 50% airline bonus if you use the “Pay with Points” option and you book an economy flight with your selected airline of choice. If you redeem your points in this method, your 100,000 points from the sign up bonus are worth $2,000! You can also get a higher value at times by transferring to partner airlines. - Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express:THIS OFFER IS EXPIRED. Earn up to $350 cash back –> Earn 10% cash back on purchases at Amazon. com in the first 6 months, up to $200. Plus, earn $150 back after you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new card within the first 3 months. Apply by 1/11/2017.
- My thoughts: Typically this card comes with a $150 cash back offer, but every now and then they increase the offer to give you additional cash back in a certain spend category, this time being Amazon. Up until this point, there has not been a higher publicly available offer for this card. This card does come with a $95 annual fee, so while it is more expensive then the Everyday version of the card, you do earn a higher percentage cash back – 6% cash back on groceries and 3% cash back at U. S. gas stations. Depending on how much you spend on these two categories will determine if the Everyday or Preferred version is best for you.
