The Shark Tank products Amazon customers love: Drop Stop, Squatty Potty, more
- Oct. 25th 2018 7:07 pm ET
Amazon recently became the official retailer of Shark Tank-backed products. When you visit Amazon LaunchPad, you’ll find over 70 items that have been featured on the hit ABC reality show, with more being added every week.
If you’re anything like me, you often wonder if the products that Sharks choose to throw their money at are any good, let alone successful. There’s no doubt that just being featured on Shark Tank provides plenty of exposure for budding businesses and entrepreneurs. But out of the inventions the Sharks themselves like enough to invest in, which ones do the consumers prefer? Below, we’ve rounded up five of the best-rated products with over 900 reviews in Amazon Launch Pad’s Shark Tank Collection.
1. Drop Stop Car Seat Gap Filler for $20 (set of 2)
This item is for anyone who is prone to dropping food, keys, phones, or anything else small and slim down that dark abyss known as car seat gap. Marc Newburger and Jeffrey Simon pitched their genius idea during Shark Tank’s fourth season. It caught the eye of the Queen of QVC, Lori Greiner, who put up $300,000 for 20% equity.
Today, Drop Stop is a Shark Tank and Amazon success, with a dazzling 4.6/5 stars from over 4,400 reviews. Many customers have confessed to being skeptical of this product before trying it out, only to be happily proven wrong. One of the top 5-star reviews even notes that the Drop Stop is effective against puppy puke: “The material soaked up enough of the fluid to keep it from seeping into the threads of the seats or splashing around…it was SOOO much easier to clean up.” Woof.
2. Mission Belt Men’s Leather Ratchet belt from $30
A belt without holes? That’s what Nate Holzapfel envisioned and ultimately brought to the Sharks in the show’s fourth season. Adorned with an adjustable and removable buckle, the Mission Belt promises to provide “a perfect fit for everyone.” Holzapfel was fortunate to have Daymond John — the Shark who is a fashion mogul — invest $50,000 for a 37.5% stake in the company.
Mission Belt has been touted as one of Daymond John’s best Shark Tank deals, and it’s easy to see why. Not only is it profitable, people also love it. Mission Belt has a 4.5/5 star rating from over 3,800 reviews. Customers have praised the high quality of the belt and the superior customer service. As for the “Mission” of it all, a dollar from every sale goes towards the fight against global hunger.
3. Spikeball 3-Ball Kit for $60
Spikeball wasn’t an entirely original idea when Chris Ruder presented it during Shark Tank’s sixth season. After a brief lifespan on Toys”R”Us shelves in the late 1980s, Ruder was inspired to bring this extreme backyard sport back to the future after he and a group of family and friends bought the rights to game. Daymond “FUBU” John was impressed enough to drop half a million dollars into Spikeball for a 20% stake.
Unfortunately, the Shark Tank deal fell through before the episode even aired. However, it hasn’t stopped Spikeball from becoming a commercial success. With 4.5/5 stars from over 1,700 reviews, kids and adults enjoy the easy set-up and all-around great workout. Buy your own Spikeball set and with enough practice, maybe you can join (and win) a tournament.
4. Stasher 7″ Reusable Silicone Food Bag for $12
Plastic has been making the news lately for all of the wrong reasons. Enter Stasher, a “fully functional, self-sealing, non-plastic bag” that contains no petroleum, PVC, or latex. Kat Nouri introduced the Sharks to this eco-friendly plastic alternative in season nine. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban had the winning bid with a $400,000 investment for 15% of the company.
Stasher has 4.2/5 stars from over 900 reviews. Versatile as a sandwich bag or a sous vide pouch, satisfied customers have also lauded how easy the Stasher bag is to clean for repeated use. Plus, using these bags means you won’t be contributing to humankind’s increasing diet of plastic, which we can all agree is a plus. Two other sizes are available for purchase: 4.5″ for $10 or 1/2-gallon for $20.
5. Q-flex Acupressure Back and Body Massage Tool for $25
The creator of the Q-flex was merely 13 years old when she came up with the idea for this portable back relief tool. Andrea Cao, accompanied by her mother, presented the Q-flex to the Shark Tank in season six. It was ultimately backed by two Sharks, Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran, who put up a combined $25,000 for 12.5% equity.
The Q-flex has been a profitable item, and Amazon shoppers have seemed to find relief from it, as well. Rated 4.1/5 stars from over 950 reviews, customers claim that the Q-flex successfully unties those knots in the back and neck while hitting key pressure points to release tension. If you can’t (or don’t want to) visit a massage therapist, consider picking one of these up for roughly the quarter of the cost of a 1-hour acupressure session.
Honorable mention: Squatty Potty 9″ Toilet Stool for $20
The Squatty Potty isn’t featured in Amazon LaunchPad’s Shark Tank Collection, but we’d be remiss to not include the infamous item that claims to change the way you go to the bathroom for the better. In the show’s sixth season, Lori Greiner offered $350,000 for 10% ownership, and the mother-and-son team of Judy and Bobby Edwards happily obliged. The rest, as they say, is history.
The Squatty Potty boasts 4.2/5 stars from over 4,100 reviews, with nearly 70% of those testimonials being 5 stars. What started as a simple way to relieve a mother’s constipation has grown into a successful empire that is known for its cheeky advertising campaigns. Squatty Potty has expanded into a full-on brand, which now includes a toilet spray, a foam that turns toilet paper into a wet wipe, and even toys.
Now over to you…

Amazon buys ‘Shark Tank’ reject for $1B

Ring, the video-doorbell company that Amazon. com Inc. bought Tuesday for more than $1 billion, was rejected by a panel of investors on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in 2013.
Jamie Siminoff, the founder and chief executive of Ring — then called DoorBot — went on the show seeking investors for his nascent business. Pitching it as “caller ID for your door,” Siminoff was seeking $700,000 for a 10 percent stake in the company — a $7 million valuation.
No one bit, except for investor Kevin O’Leary, who offered a $700,000 loan, 10 percent of all sales until the loan was paid off, 7 percent royalties on all future sales and a 5 percent stake in the company.
Those terms didn’t work for Siminoff, who walked away from the offer.
“I remember after that ‘Shark Tank’ episode literally being in tears,” Siminoff told CNBC last year. “I needed the money, we were out of money at the time.”
But sales picked up after the show aired, and four years and a new name later, Ring had 1,300 employees, was sold in 16,000 stores and had a billion-dollar valuation.
One prominent investor did latch on early, however — Virgin Group billionaire Richard Branson, who participated in a $28 million funding round in 2015.
“I couldn’t quite work out why the sharks turned him down, it just seemed to be a wonderful idea,” Branson later said during a guest appearance on “Shark Tank.”
