But then what? Adding to your shopping list? Setting timers? Asking about the weather? Great, but it's pretty similar to Siri in what it can do, and using your voice to buy things from Amazon isn't super exciting.

Alexa can do so much more than that, especially for your home. With the help from smart home devices, like light bulbs, thermostats, and door locks, Alexa becomes your vocal liaison between you and your smart home.

Controlling your smart home devices with your voice is one of those things that you'll truly "get" once you try it. After you get used to it, getting up and controlling your smart home with panels and switches will seem archaic, and even using apps to control your smart devices will feel outdated.

Can I use voice control with Joule? How do I connect it to an Amazon Echo or Dot?

If you have already set up an Amazon Echo, Dot, or other Alexa Voice Service device, you can easily enable it to control Joule with just your voice! This is incredibly handy when you have sticky hands, are busy helping the kids with homework, or just don’t feel like getting up off the couch.

Here’s how to set it up: Open the Amazon Alexa app and tap on the menu in the upper left corner. Choose “Skills” from the drop-down options, then type “Joule” into the search bar. Select the skill titled “Joule: Sous Vide by ChefSteps,” then tap “Enable Skill.” You will then be directed to the ChefSteps sign-in screen. Sign in to your account, and you are good to go.

Once the skill is enabled, make sure Joule is connected to WiFi and ready to cook (plugged in, in a pot of water). Say: “Alexa, open Joule.” From here, you can ask Alexa to set the water to a certain temperature. Try saying: “Alexa, ask Joule to heat water to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.” If you change your mind about the temperature at which you want to cook, say: “Alexa, ask Joule to change the temperature to 130 degrees Fahrenheit.” If you want Joule to stop cooking, say: “Alexa, tell Joule to stop.” Say “Alexa, open Joule” whenever you want to check in on the status of a cook.

Open the Alexa App on your mobile device and log in Tap Music, Video, & Books from the s >FRONTIER from the V >ENABLE SKILL

3Pair your internet-connected STB with your Amazon Alexa-enabled device

Using FRONTIER remote and STB, press the MENU button Select VOICE CONTROL from left s >Amazon Alexa and then select Get Code from this screen. The screen will show Activation Code and Device Name. Make a note of both. Now, in your Amazon Alexa mobile app, enter the Activation Code that shows on your TV Screen Tap PAIR. When you see green checkmark, tap CONTINUE. Close the screen by tapping X. App will search for discoverable devices. Choose the device that matches your STB. Tap CONTINUE Then, choose the Alexa-enabled device you are linking, then tap LINK DEVICES to complete the pairing
