Making the decision to buy an Amazon Echo Show, is just the beginning. After you get it home and unbox it, you need to get it up and running.



The following setup procedures apply to the Echo Show, Echo Show 5, Echo Show 8, and Echo Spot.



What You Need



    PC/Mac Desktop/Laptop or Smartphone/Tablet Internet Service Internet Router with Wi-Fi capability An Amazon Account (Preferably Prime)


Initial Setup Steps



Download the Alexa App to your PC/Mac or Smartphone Tablet. The app can be downloaded from the Amazon Appstore, Apple App Store, or Google Play. You can also download the app directly from Alexa. amazon. com using Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer 10 or higher.



After downloading the Alexa App, find a spot for your Echo Show (should be eight inches or more from any walls or windows) and plug it into an AC power outlet using the power adapter. It will turn on automatically.



Once the Echo Show is on, you should hear Alexa say, "Hello, your Echo Device is ready for setup."



Next, you will be prompted to:



    Select Language, Connect to Wi-Fi(have your password/wireless key code). Confirm Time Zone Log in to your Amazon account (should be the same as the account you have on your smartphone). Read and accept the Echo Show Terms and Conditions notice.


If a firmware update is available, the screen will display an updates ready message. Tap Install Now, on the screen. Installing a firmware update may take several minutes. Wait until the screen notifies you that installation of the update(s) is complete.



After the updates are installed, an Introducing Echo Show video will become available that will familiarize you with some of its features. After viewing the video (recommended), Alexa will say, "Your Echo Show is ready."



Using Alexa Voice Recognition and Touchscreen



To start using the Echo Show, say "Alexa" and then state a command or ask a question. Once Alexa responds, you are ready to go. Alexa is the default Wake Word. However, you can also change your wake word:



Command Alexa to Go to settings or use the touch screen to get to the Settings menu.



Once there, select Device Options, and select Wake Word.



Your additional Wake Word choices are Echo, Amazon, and Computer. If you like one, select it and then tap Save.



Tips for Using the Echo Show



Using your Echo Show is as easy as using your smartphone:



You can change the Wake Word via the Alexa App on your mobile device or PC. Go to Settings, select the Echo Show as your device, scroll down to Wake Word, make your choice, then hit Save.



Now, simply talk to the Echo Show by Asking questions or Giving commands. If the Echo Show recognizes your questions, it will give a verbal response, display the result, or perform the task.



When speaking to the Echo Show, use natural tones, at a normal pace. Over time, Alexa will become familiar with your speech patterns.



When using the touchscreen, employ the same tapping and scrolling method you use to navigate a smartphone or tablet screen.



If you're not at home where your Alexa device is located, you can still control Alexa through your smartphone or tablet.



Once comfortable with Alexa's voice and the touchscreen, take a few minutes to sample Playing Music, Watching Videos, Make a Phone Call, and Get Information.



Play Music With Amazon Prime



If you subscribe to Amazon Prime Music, you can start playing music right away simply with commands such as "Play rock from Prime Music" or "Play top 40 hits from Prime Music."



When listening to music, the Echo Show will display Album/Artist art and song lyrics (if available). You can also verbally command the Echo Show to "raise the volume", "stop the music", "pause", "go to next song", "repeat this song," etc.



Watch Videos On YouTube Or Amazon Video



Get started watching TV shows and movies via YouTube or Amazon Video. To access YouTube, just say "Show me videos on YouTube" or, if you know what type of video you are looking for, for example, you can also say something like "Show me Dog videos on YouTube" or "Show me Taylor Swift music videos on YouTube."



Amazon and Google have a continuing dispute regarding Amazon's use of YouTube access on several of its devices, including the Echo Show. This means that Echo Show users don't have direct access to the YouTube app, but are able to access the YouTube website through Amazon Echo's built-in Firefox or Silk web browsers.



If you subscribe to Amazon Video (including any Amazon streaming channels, such as HBO, Showtime, Starz, Cinemax, and more. ), you can ask the Echo Show to "Show me my video library" or "Show me my watch list." You can also verbally search for specific movie or TV series titles (including by season), actor's name, or genre.



Video playback can be controlled by verbal commands, such as "play", "pause", "resume." You can also go back or skip ahead in time increments, or command the Echo Show to go to the next episode if watching a TV series.



Let Alexa Make A Phone Call or Send A Message



For voice-only calling or messaging, you can use the Echo Show to call or message anyone that has a compatible device (Echo, smartphone, tablet) that has the Alexa App installed.



For video calling, both parties need to have an Echo Show or one party needs to have a video-call-enabled smartphone/tablet with the Alexa app installed. To make a video call, tap the on-screen icon. If the person you want to call is on your contact list, just say the person's name the Echo Show will connect you.



Get Information and a Lot More



To find out information, you can ask Alexa tell you the weather, the time, order an Uber, get directions, show you recipes, and use it a calculator. You can also control other smart home devices, including lights and thermostats. If you've landed on this page, it means that the Amazon Echo setup process is giving you a hard time too. You are not alone. Many people are having issues setting up Amazon Echo and Alexa.





You need the Alexa app or the website to complete the setup process. Although the Echo setup process is quite easy, if you skip some minor steps, you are doomed.



Many times, the Alexa app is stuck on the white screen and doesn’t let you complete the setup process. Other times, you will see that the ring light is stuck on blue when you actually need the orange light to start the setup process. But don’t worry. We are here to help you.



In this post, we have mentioned some solutions to ease out the Amazon Echo setup process.



1. Set Up Amazon Echo and Alexa Properly



Step 1. Install the Alexa app and Plug-in Amazon Echo



Install the Alexa app on your Android or iOS device. But, don’t open it yet. Plug the Amazon Echo device into an electric socket. It will light up and the ring will turn blue for a minute or two. Once the ring turns yellowish orange, launch the Alexa app that you just installed on your phone.





Step 2. Launch the Alexa App and Sign in



When you launch the Alexa app, you'll be asked to sign in using your Amazon account. If you have an Amazon account, use your existing credentials. If, however, you are a new user, create a new Amazon account.

Step 3. Wait for Orange Light on Echo



After that, you'll be asked to connect to Wi-Fi on the screen that says "Begin Echo Setup". Tap the Connect to Wi-Fi button. You will then be taken to the Wait for the orange light ring screen.





If your Amazon Echo device is showing the orange light, well and good. However, if your echo device is stuck in the blue light ring, press the Action button of your Echo device for 5-10 seconds until you get the orange light ring. Then, tap the Continue button on your Alexa app.





Step 4. Manually Connect to Amazon Wi-Fi



You'll then be taken to the Manually connect to Echo screen. This step is very crucial and it's important to follow it carefully.





Here’s what you need to do. Leave the Alexa app and open the Wi-Fi Settings on your phone. Under Wi-Fi connections, you'll see a new Wi-Fi connection with the name Amazon-xxx, where 'x' can be any digit.





Then, tap this connection to connect. As soon as you tap the connection, your Echo device will then say her first words that you are connected. But, that’s not even the end of the story.



Once you connect to this Amazon Wi-Fi, you'll get a notification saying Wi-Fi has no Internet access on Android. Tap the notification and select Yes from the pop-up menu. This step is also extremely important. If you don’t tap the notification and press Yes, you will face the Wi-Fi setup issue on Echo.





If, somehow, you missed the Wi-Fi has no Internet access notification and your Echo is now showing the violet light ring, hold the Action button on your Echo device to enter setup mode again.



Then, repeat the steps mentioned above and this time make sure to tap the Wi-Fi has no Internet access notification followed by selecting Yes from the menu. Once you tap Yes, go back to the Alexa app and you will be connected successfully. Tap the Continue button.





Step 5. Connect to Home/Office Wi-Fi



You'll then be asked to select your Wi-Fi network. Tap your Wi-Fi network and enter the password. If you want to you can also save your Wi-Fi password to Amazon. Finally, hit the Connect button.





Your Echo device will then finish the setup process and you'll be notified on the next screen that the setup is complete. Tap the Continue button. That’s all you have to do to set up Echo and Alexa without any issue.





If you follow the above-mentioned steps, hopefully, Amazon Echo will work perfectly fine for you. If you're still facing issues, follow these fixes.



2. Uninstall Alexa From Your Phone



If you're stuck in the white screen on your Alexa app and even waiting for some time doesn’t remove the white screen, you should try uninstalling the Alexa app from your device. To uninstall Alexa, follow the usual methods to uninstall the app from the iPhone or an Android device.



3. Disable Smart Network or Smart Wi-Fi Switcher



On some devices like Samsung and OnePlus, you need to disable the Smart Network Wi-Fi setting. To do so, follow the steps:



Step 1: If you're stuck on the setup process, leave the Alexa app and open device Settings.



Step 2: Go to the Wi-Fi Settings of your phone. In older Samsung phones, you'll find Smart network switch on this screen itself. Uncheck the option if it's on.





On the new Samsung devices, tap the three-dot menu at the top-right corner or tap Advanced Settings. Turn off the Smart Network option or Switch to mobile data as it is called now. Go back to the Alexa app and it should be connected. Similarly, look for the Smart Wi-Fi Switcher option in the OnePlus Wi-Fi Settings.





4. Change Date and Time of Your Phone



Many times due to a conflict in the date and time of your phone, Alexa and Echo do not complete the setup process properly. You have to change the date and time settings on your device from Manual to Automatic.

5. Update Android System Webview



A normal user will never think of updating the apps if they are facing setup issue on their Echo. However, surprisingly, you have to update an app (if an update exists) to fix this issue. You need to update the Android System Webview from the Play Store.





To do so, follow these steps:



Step 1: Open the Play Store app on your device and search for Android System Webview.



Step 2: If you see an update button for Android System Webview, tap it to update the app. Once updated, try setting up Amazon Echo and Alexa again.



6. Disable Ad Guards and VPNs

7. Set Up Alexa From the Website



If none of the above-mentioned fixes resolve your Echo problem, try setting up Echo from the website instead of the app. On your PC, open the Alexa website and sign in with your Amazon account.





Interestingly, the site and apps have a similar user interface (UI). Click the Settings option present in the left menu followed by Set up a new device. Then, follow the guided setup and you are good to go.



If you don’t have PC, don’t worry. You can use the website on your phone too. Open Chrome on your phone and tap the three-dot icon in the top bar. Then, select the Request desktop site option.



Now, open the Alexa website and follow the instructions to set up a new device. Once you've successfully set up Echo, you can then use the Alexa app normally.

Amazon Echo Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi





The Amazon Echo is an amazing, compact device with thousands of different uses. But if you have a new one that is not connected to Wi-Fi, or if your Echo simply stops connecting to Wi-Fi, it suddenly becomes effectively useless. Without a working internet connection, Amazon Echo will not speak, process commands, or stream media for you. Frequently, the solution to Amazon Echo issues is to be found in troubleshooting and resolving Internet connectivity problems, not problems with the Amazon Echo itself.



Setting Up a Brand New Echo



If you’ve just purchased or received a new Echo, the first thing you’ll want to do is hook it up to your Wi-Fi connection so you can start enjoying it. Amazon Echo completely relies on the Internet to work properly.



Before you get started, make sure your Echo is plugged in. It may not be fully charged, and you do not want it to die during the setup process. Wait until the light ring on the top of the Echo turns orange before proceeding. While the issue of whether your Echo is plugged into power may seem like a trivial issue, many technical issues can be traced to the device not plugged in. Many times something appears plugged in but the connection’s not pushed in far enough to work. Confirming that the device is fully connected to a power source is near the top of the troubleshooting list for many technical problems.




    Open the Alexa application on your smartphone or tablet to connect your Echo to your wireless network. In the Home screen of the Alexa app, tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left-hand corner. Then, tap “Settings.” Next, tap on “Set up a new device” under “Alexa devices.” Choose the Echo device you’re connecting to Wi-Fi: Echo, Tap or Dot. Then, you’ll choose your language and tap the blue “Continue” button. On the next screen, you’ll do the setup for your Echo device and click the blue “Connect to Wi-Fi” button. Your Echo will tell you when it’s ready, and you will also see an orange ring of light around the top of it. If your Echo light does not change to orange after a little while, press and hold the “Action” button (the dot) on the Echo for a few seconds. Release it when the light changes to orange, then tap “Continue” in your app. Choose the desired Wi-Fi network to connect your Echo to. Then, enter your password for that network. Your Amazon Echo should now connect to your Wi-Fi network and audibly let you know when the connection is successful.



If the connection is unsuccessful, make sure that you have entered your password correctly. Because the password is hidden, it is easy to mistype one of the characters. Simply try reconnecting and re-entering your password before you try any of the troubleshooting tips below.



In addition, if you’ve got more than one wireless network connection, then try connecting to another one if attempts are still unsuccessful to the initial Wi-Fi connection.



Orange Ring of Light Tells you that the Echo can’t connect to the Internet



If you see an orange ring of light around the top of your Amazon Echo at any time after you have performed the initial setup, it’s trying to tell you something: It’s not connected to the Internet. Even if you’re Echo’s connected to WiFi, that doesn’t mean that the connection between your Cable or DSL modem and the Internet is working.. The Echo will attempt to reconnect with your Wi-Fi and your WiFI will try to reconnect with the Internet, but it may be unsuccessful.



To regain the Wi-Fi connection or between your Amazon Echo and your internet, you’ll need to re-establish a connection. What could have caused or create such issues with the Amazon Echo and Wireless connections? Below, we’ll look at the possible problems, as well as the easy ways for you to fix them.



Possible Fixes for Echo Connection Problems



If your Echo is not connected to the internet, follow these steps in order until it has reconnected.



Check to make sure your router is plugged in and connected to the Internet. Can you connect to Wi-Fi and access the Internet from another device? If not, the problem lies with either your router or your modem. Unplug both devices, wait 15 seconds, then plug them back in. If that does not work, try the same thing with the Echo. If you are using a dual-band modem, then you may have two Wi-Fi networks set up. The two frequencies are optimized for different uses. The 5GHz frequency offers a more stable connection, while the 2.4GHz frequency is better for devices located further away. Try switching to the other network to see if the Echo will connect. Still nothing? Try repositioning your Echo. First, get it away from any wireless devices that could interfere with its signal. Then, move it higher, such as on top of a piece of furniture, to avoid interference. Finally, it could be that the Echo is too far from the wireless router, or in a part of your house where the signal is not especially strong. Try moving the Echo to a better location, such as right next to your wireless router. (Tip: Alternatively, you could get a wireless extender to expand your router’s range.)



When all else fails, you can reset your Amazon Echo to its factory settings. The process is different for the first - and second-generation Echos.



For the first-generation Echo:



Using a thin item, such as a paperclip, to press and hold the reset button located in the bottom of the device. The light ring on top of the Echo will turn orange, then blue. Release the button, and the light will turn off, then orange. Now, follow the process outlined above to set up your Wi-Fi connection from scratch.



For the second-generation Echo:



Press and hold the devices “Volume Down” and “Microphone Off” buttons. The light will turn orange for about 20 seconds, then turn blue. Release the button, and the light will turn off, then orange. Now, follow the process outlined above to set up your Wi-Fi connection from scratch.
