What's the status of an EnvisaLink Skill for Amazon Alexa / Echo?

Looks like a straightforward API, and the ability to arm/disarm via voice command would be a huge benefit.

Using the Amazon Echo HA bridge proxy (search google) and alarmserver. py(github)

You can already do this. it's a bit of a pain to set up but it works.

Basically the HA Bridge allows you to add a virtual device to your echo that responds to On/off commands. You then point the URL in the proxy to the Alarmserver. py server, which in turn controls the EVL.

Both can be run in a VM, or raspberry pi.

I have this setup at home but only use it for turning ON the alarm, turning off is disabled/unconfigured.

I just got an Alexa device and am very interested in doing this with my envisalink 3 but have no idea where to start with your server code. The proxy bridge sounds simple enough to just custom add to Alexa but I don't know how to run the alarm server code. I do have a small windows PC for my entertainment system that I could use to run it but could you help me understand how to?

I just got my EVL4 and was able to hook it up to Alexa/Echo without much difficulty.

All I needed was HA Bridge. Didn't need alarmserver. py

Get a pre-built java jar here

In order to start supporting a lot more services, EyezOn really needs to:

A) Support OAUTH for subscriber login / service handling

B) Open up the data to a REST interface

I have implemented numerous services for Alexa and Google Home, without bringing the services up to the modern internet technologies it will be hard to embrace the modern world of IoT (beyond the hobbiest that is).

Hi Firehawk. Trying to setup my EVL4 with HA bridge.. I just cant get the syntax correct.

I got all the way through your instructions and it posts to Alexa app, but it says the alarm is not responding. Also - the test on function in the HA bridge does nothing.

Does the code you listed

Forgot all about this. the Alexa Dot/Echo integration worked out well too, I use voice commands for my DSC/envisalink all the time now. Google Home is nicer 'cause you can "Ok Google" your phone on the way home to disarm and open the garage door but alexa is good too.

I have the Vista 20P along with the EnvisaLink 4 and am using a Raspberry Pi Zero W (with HA-Bridge) to integrate with Amazon Alexa skills. This thread helped me out in setting it up but it still took me a while. I keep instructions of all my projects so if you're interested, here is how I did it:

8 Quick Tips for Amazon Echo Safety & Privacy

1. Turn off voice input. Use Alexa voice remote instead.

The Echo captures every sound and voice command in the room. For your privacy, disable the mic by pressing the Echo’s top ‘Mute’ button when the Echo isn’t in use to prevent data from being collected. You’ll still be able to use the Echo using your Alexa Voice Remote. Just press and hold the remote’s talk button, wait for the sound, then give your command.

2. Use PIN protection or disable voice purchases.

To prevent anyone else from using your Echo device for unauthorized voice purchases, set up a PIN. To set up your voice PIN, open your Alexa app, head to ‘Settings’, then select ‘Voice Purchasing’. Alternatively, you can disable voice purchasing altogether to ensure secure, authorized purchasing.

3. Turn on your device’s sound notification.

Your Echo’s default setting automatically turns sound notifications off. Switch the Echo’s sound notification on to automatically alert you if your Echo is accidentally triggered. Here’s how to do it:

6. Review and delete your interactions with Alexa.

Amazon automatically stores all of your Echo’s interactions to improve its performance and command accuracy. For extra privacy, regularly review and delete your communication with Alexa. Here’s how to do it:

Delete specific voice recordings. Go to your ‘Settings’, then select ’History’ in the Alexa App. Drill down for a specific entry, then tap the ‘Delete’ button. Delete all of your voice recordings. Visit Amazon’s content and device management portal. Then click the ‘Your Devices’ tab. Next, select the corresponding button under ‘Actions’ for your Echo or other Alexa-enabled devices. Next, select ‘Manage voice recordings’ and click ‘Delete’. You may also contact Amazon’s customer service to delete all voice recordings.

7. Turn your Echo’s camera off.

The latest Echo Show includes a touchscreen with a camera for easy video calling. If you’re worried about your camera being on when it’s not in use, simply turn it off and only turn it on when needed. Amazon's bringing its personal assistant on the road with the new Echo Auto, affordably adding Alexa to your car via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm audio jack. An eight-mic array helps to pick up your voice over the noise, letting you ask Alexa for things like music, news, control devices back at home, or turn on an audiobook. Powered by either a 12V cigarette lighter socket or USB, the Echo Auto is driven by the Alexa app on your phone.

Curiously, the Echo Auto is only available by invitation for the time being, at a discounted pre-order price of $25. Interested parties can request an invite at the product listing on Amazon, with devices expected to ship later this year.

Amazon has redesigned the Echo Dot. It's the same price as before, but now sports a bigger 1.6" driver (from 1.1"), a bit more power, and an updated design. Amazon thinks it should be 70% louder for the same $50 price.

The Echo Dot isn't the only hardware seeing a refresh. The Echo Plus model gets an integrated temperature sensor, "more powerful" sound via a bigger 3" woofer, and the same $150 price tag.

As before, it's still a Zigbee hub for all your smart home gadgets, but Amazon is expanding local functionality to ensure your smart lights and continue to work when the internet is out. This new Echo Plus won't be shipping until October 11th, but you can pre-order one now over on Amazon.

Amazon's new Echo Show is substantially redesigned, with 100% less front-facing speaker grille, and 3" more screen. It has dual, side-firing, cloth-covered drivers; an eight-mic array; Dolby-processed sound, 5MP camera, and a 1280x800 "HD" resolution display.

Other than the slight bump in resolution (the old model was 1024x600) it shares many specs with the previous version, including the Intel Atom x5-Z8350 CPU. The addition of a Zigbee hub is new, though.

Like most of Amazon's products today, it's available for pre-order now at $230, with an expected October 11th release.
