Amazon. com Help Bottle Deposit Fees
About Import Fees Deposit
At checkout, Amazon Global Store will provide you with an estimate of the taxes, customs duties, and fees which may apply to your order and undertake customs clearance on your behalf.
Orders of Amazon Global Store items that are shipped into Australia may be subject to taxes, customs duties and fees ("Import Fees Deposit") levied by Australian authorities.
F or products which have a customs value greater than $1,000 AU, Amazon Global Store will estimate and collect the taxes, customs duties, and fees which may apply to your order. Amazon Global Store will also permit the shipping carrier to clear your shipment through customs on your (or your recipient's) behalf. For your convenience, Amazon will estimate and collect at checkout an Import Fees Deposit together with the item price, and such funds will be used by the carrier to pay the relevant taxes, customs duties, and fees on your behalf, to the appropriate authorities.
The Import Fees Deposit is an estimation of the taxes, customs duties and fees that may apply and isn't an actual calculation of those charges, the actual charges may vary from this estimate. In addition, customs regulations, tax, duty, and fee rates applicable to certain goods may change between the order date and the date of entry.
Where your Amazon Global Store Order has a combined value greater than $1,000 AU, and includes products which have a customs value of $1,000 AU or less (low value imported goods or LVIG), both GST and an Import Fee Deposit may apply, but you will only be charged for the GST once.
Amazon Global Store orders which have a customs value of $1,000 AU or less will not include an Import Fee Deposit, but will include applicable GST. See About GST on Low Value Imported Goods (LVIG).
You authorise Amazon US to designate a carrier to act as your agent with the relevant customs and tax authorities of the destination country, to carry out the customs clearance for the Global Store products you order, and process and pay the actual taxes, customs duties, and fees for such orders if applicable.
If the shipment is a gift or order on behalf of a third party, you provide the above authorisation on behalf of the recipient named in your order. Please read the following frequently asked questions about Import Fees Deposit and the Amazon Global Store Conditions of Use.
Which products does the Import Fees Deposit apply to?
For Amazon Global Store products purchased on amazon. com. au which have a customs value greater than $1,000 AU, an estimated Import Fees Deposit will be applied to the order. Where your Amazon Global Store Order has a combined value greater than $1,000 AU, and includes products which have a customs value of $1,000 AU or less (low value imported goods or LVIG), both GST and an Import Fee Deposit may apply, but you will only be charged for the GST once.
How is the Import Fees Deposit calculated?
The Amazon Global Store program use their own software to estimate applicable taxes, customs duties, and fees for each item and shipment. This is calculated at checkout once the delivery address has been selected.
Why can the Import Fees Deposit vary from the actual charges that will apply?

Getting Pa > KDP pays royalties every month, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which they were earned. For example, you'll be paid in October for royalties earned in August, as long as they meet the minimum threshold. You'll receive separate royalty payments for each Amazon marketplace in which you have chosen to distribute your title. Available payment methods (direct deposit, wire transfer, or check) are based on the location of your bank. Your bank may have fees associated with some payments. Please contact your bank to verify fees associated with receiving payments.
Payment schedule
KDP pays royalties monthly, approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the royalties are earned, as long as they meet the minimum thresholds. Direct deposit payments do not have a threshold.
Month royalties were earned | When you'll receive royalty payment* |
January | End of March |
February | End of April |
March | End of May |
April | End of June |
May | End of July |
June | End of August |
July | End of September |
August | End of October |
September | End of November |
October | End of December |
November | End of January |
December | End of February |
*For check and wire payments there is a minimum threshold in each marketplace after deducting the applicable tax withholding. If your royalty earnings fall below the threshold for check and wire payments, we will keep a running total and issue payment once the amount exceeds the minimum threshold.
Direct deposit
Choosing direct deposit, also known as electronic funds transfer (EFT), as a payment method allows you to receive your earned royalties without a minimum threshold before the funds are released to you; in a more secure and environmentally friendly way than paper checks; and in your local currency. There's also a handling fee of $8/£8/€8 per check payment to authors who reside in the US, UK, or EU countries/regions where we offer direct deposit.
To avoid the handling fee, sign up for direct deposit:
Go to your KDP account. Complete two-step verification. Under Getting Paid, click Add a bank account. Choose your country or region of residence and click OK. Enter your bank account information according to your country/region requirements and click Done Click the plus sign next to the marketplace you want to update, and change the "Pay my royalties via" option from check to EFT. Choose your preferred currency and click Add bank account to add your bank account to each marketplace you update. Click Save.
After you switch to direct deposit, the change will take effect immediately. You'll be paid in full for all of your sales, regardless of the amount, in your local currency approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the royalties accrued.
Payment options by location
When you're setting up your account information, you can choose how you'd like to receive your payments for sales from each Amazon marketplace. Available payment methods (direct deposit, wire transfer, or check) are based on the location of your bank. Customers pay in their local currencies, but we pay your royalties in the default currency of your bank account's location. The default currency can't be changed. You can use a bank account in another location to receive payments in that location's currency.
Video: Setting up EFT (U. S.)
While Amazon may support direct deposit (EFT) payments to the country or region where your bank account is located, some local banks require additional documentation to release funds from international electronic payments. Please work with your bank to determine the requirements to release direct deposit payments.
See available payment methods options based on your preferred bank location:
Payment thresholds
Direct deposit payments do not have a threshold. This means you'll be paid electronically in full no matter the amount accrued. However, when converting local royalty earnings to a different country or region, the amount to be paid after conversion must meet the minimum amount banks will allow us to send. For check and wire payments there is a minimum threshold in each marketplace after deducting the applicable tax withholding.
If your royalty earnings fall below the threshold for check and wire payments, we will keep a running total and issue payment once the amount exceeds the minimum threshold. Your payment occurs sixty days after the end of the month in which your royalties meet the threshold.

*BIC means Bank Identification Code (also called SWIFT). It's needed to complete international money transfers. If you provide your BIC/SWIFT code, you can receive payments by wire transfer, which is faster than check payments.
Missing payment issues
If the information you enter in your KDP account doesn't exactly match the information your bank has on file for you, the bank will reject an electronic transfer of funds. If you use a pen name in your KDP Account Payment Settings which does not match your information on file with your bank, the bank will reject the payment.
Payment not received for all marketplaces
We pay royalties separately for each marketplace. The top reasons why publishers receive payments only for some marketplaces are:
- Not all the marketplaces have accrued royalties. Not all the marketplaces have met the necessary threshold to process the payment (if the method is Check or Wire). When converting local royalty earnings to a different country, the amount to be paid after conversion didn't meet the minimum amount banks will allow us to send (if the method is EFT or Wire).
Report shows an EFT/WIRE payment, but payment doesn't appear in bank account
Direct deposit (EFT) payments can take 1-5 business days to show on your bank account from the payment date. In the case of wire payments, it can take 5-10 days. If in your Payments Report you see the amounts showing as "Paid," but the payment still does not appear in your account, please contact your financial institution for verification. If your bank is located in India, EFT payments can take 7-10 business days past the payment date before they show in your bank account.
Check has not arrived
Check delivery time frames vary depending on location. After the payment date it can take up to a month for the check to reach the address in your KDP account. Please allow this much time before reporting your check as lost, and be sure to confirm the address on file is correct.
Withholding
If you're a US publisher, royalty payments for sales on the BR store are subject to Brazilian withholding taxation of 15%. Also, royalty payments for sales on the IN store are subject to 10% Singaporean tax withholding. If you're not a US publisher, royalties for Amazon. com (US) are subject to tax withholding depending on the country or region where you pay taxes. For Amazon. com. br (BR), you'll be subject to withholding only if you report your taxes in certain countries and regions. Learn more about tax withholding.
The tax withholding will be applied to the gross amount of your payment before it gets processed. Meaning that if you accrued $143.00 in the US Kindle Store and you have 30% tax withholding on your account, we will process a payment for $100.10 ($143.00 – 30% = $100.10).
Amazon: What’s Import Fees Deposit
Order processing and delivery from the United States to the Philippines via UPS Worldwide Saver® service [AmazonGlobal Expedited Shipping 5-10 business days] took seven days [April 5, 2016 to April 11, 2016] in total.
Final delivery was fulfilled by a local courier [Air21]. I haven’t confirmed though if they are one of the designated carriers of Amazon.
I did not pay any extra fee. I just signed to receive the box.
I didn’t have any problem with the item, so I gained confidence to buy electronic gadgets and items in Amazon in the future.
The only thing that made me curious for weeks after receiving the item is the Import Fees Deposit. I’m curious If I will receive a refund or not.
When the box was delivered, there was no attached paper about customs clearance, so I do not have a reference. Also, the courier did not give some sort of paper or document.
The questions now is: Is the paid Import Fees Deposit just enough?
A month has passed and I did not hope to receive a refund. I was surprised then when one day, May 28, 2016, I received an email from Amazon about a refund.
AMAZON REFUNDS EXCESS IN AN IMPORT FEES DEPOSIT
I only received a small credit [$2.95 = PHP125.16], but I was still thankful that I received an email from the company and I now knew how the AmazonGlobal program works.
It was mentioned in the email that crediting of a refund takes three to five days if a credit card was used to pay the order, or seven to ten days if a bank account.
It only took three days to have my refund posted to my account.
Import Fees Deposit is an estimate of the customs tax fees and import duties that will be assessed in the destination country.
Remember, imported goods are subject to tax and duty. There are exemptions, but it varies per country.
If there is an excess in the paid import fees deposit, Amazon will refund it. If there’s a deficit, they will not charge the difference.
Amazon processes refund within 60 days from shipment date.
* Refers to AmazonGlobal items only. There are items that marketplace sellers are selling which are not covered by the AmazonGlobal program. See example here of an order without an Import Fees Deposit. In this case, an order will be shipped by a seller directly to the shipping address without going through an Amazon warehouse and it is the receiver’s responsibility to coordinate and to pay customs fees and import duties unless the seller stated otherwise that they will take care of customs clearance.
