I really, really wanted to like this timer. However, I don't.



I found the layout pretty workable. I wore it on the first finger of my left hand. I really liked being able to hit the lap button with my thumb, and I had little difficulty finding it.



I can't believe the strap is not adjustable. I mean, I really, really, can't believe it. I'm a pretty small guy. I have small hands and relatively small fingers and it was tight for me. I was quite concerned that it was going to cut off circulation to my finger. I can't imagine that an average - or larger-sized man could live with this thing. Even if you needed a screwdriver to adjust it, at least you could adjust it to be comfortable.



The operation is pretty confusing, but I could probably get used to it. They might be able to simplify it by dropping the alarm (really? alarm? you got an important date while you're swimming? A countdown timer would be justifiable, but alarm?) and the time (while it's nice to have the time, if they could simplify the thing by getting rid of it I'd say go for it).



I would dearly love if the buttons (in particular the lap button) had a positive click. Since you're not going to look at it, you really want to _know_ you've pressed it. Once. Yes, it beeps, but I really doubt you'll hear the beep while you're turning.



The display is where this unit really fails to shine. It has 4 large digits (1/4") and 2 small digits (1/8"). First, the biggest idiocy is that when displaying the lap count, they use the large digits to display "LAP" and the small digits to display the actual lap count. The small digits are somewhere between difficult and impossible to read through slightly fogged goggles. But hey, who needs to know the lap count, amirite? When you end a lap, it displays the lap count for 3 seconds, then the lap time for 3 seconds, then goes into its running mode where it displays lap count for 3, split time for 3, then lap time for 3. So, if at the end of a lap, you want to know the split time, you've got to wait 9 seconds. That's kind of going to affect your lap time, I think.



It's a small display, I get it. They can't display everything. How about they let you configure what to display during a lap and what to display at the end of a lap. I swim for 30 minutes and finish the last lap. So the split time is what I want at the end of a lap. Waiting 9 second for it just doesn't fly.



Finally, the recall function is nice, but why doesn't it give the split time? It only gives lap count and lap time. Hint: when you're reviewing a swim, _that's_ when you have 9 seconds/lap to see the count, the lap time and the split time.



All-in-all, a bitter disappointment.

Amazon customer service scam targets your financial data

If you've got a problem with an Amazon. com (AMZN) order and need to reach customer support, you're just the kind of person criminals are eager to speak to.



A recent scam targets customers who want to get an Amazon customer service representative on the phone. The fraudsters are posting fake Amazon service numbers that show up in online searches, according to Krebs on Security. When the victim calls the number, the scammer picks up and asks for detailed personal information such as bank account and credit card information.



It's no surprise that scammers are focusing Amazon. com, the biggest online retailer, and its customers. Yet the customer support scam targets customers at a point when they may be more willing to hand over sensitive data, in the hope they'll receive a refund for their Amazon Prime service or merchandise.

So how can customers avoid falling for this con? For one, chatting with an Amazon customer service rep through its site guarantees you are reaching an employee. Secondly, make sure you call Amazon's actual customer support number, 1 (888) 280-4331.



"Whenever we become aware of actions like the ones you describe, we take steps to stop them," Amazon said in an emailed statement. "If you're concerned about your account, please contact Amazon customer service immediately using the help section on our website."



Other Amazon-related scams have emerged recently, including an international online retail scam. In that case, one couple was surprised to receive unordered packages from Amazon. It had neither a return address or an order number, which meant the couple couldn't return it.



This scam is called "brushing," where an online seller purchases their own product and ships it to a real address. Then the seller writes a fake review while posing as the buyer. The goal? To present glowing reviews from "genuine" shoppers in an effort to game the system and push their products to the top of Amazon's pages.



Amazon has battled fake reviews for years, with mixed success. As with any retail experience, consumers should view the reviews with a "caveat emptor" attitude and keep an eye out for fraudulent reviews. Experts say a lack of genuineness in tone, such as being over-the-top in praising a given product, can be a tip off.



"We are investigating inquiries from consumers who have received unsolicited packages as this would violate our policies," the spokesperson said. "We have confirmed the sellers involved did not receive names or shipping addresses from Amazon. We remove sellers in violation of our policies, withhold payments, and work with law enforcement to take appropriate action."

I absolutely loved the first book of this series but unfortunately the next two did not meet expectations. However, overall I enjoyed this series and would still recommend it.



The good stuff - the storyline is fantastic - at least for those of us who love science fiction. I love the way society has been grouped, the technology used and how they live on different planets across the galaxy. The characters are also suburb and it's fantastic to watch their development.



The bad stuff - When I finished the first book I just wanted more. However, I found myself wishing that the end would just hurry up for the second and third book - especially the third. Like most other trilogies, the author drags the story out longer than it needs to be and doesn't quite maintain the momentum of the first book. The other thing I found annoying was how the author repeatedly used the same format across all three books - ie build up suspense and make readers think something terrible is happening only to find out that it's all part of the lead character's plan. This got very tired and predictable by the third book.
