Wyze Cam Pan HD Pan/Tilt/Zoom Wi-Fi Indoor Camera Review

Wyze Cam Pan, a second generation Wyze Cam offering pan, tilt, and zoom (PTZ) with 360-degree room coverage, 93-degree vertical tilting, and impressive 1080p full HD video quality. This little camera also packs with everything you’d expect from a modern smart cam like two-way audio, night vision, motion-detection zones, smart notification, and local/cloud recording. This isn’t the best camera but it comes with incredible value for the little price that outperforms many expensive devices out there.

The Wyze Cam Pan has the good build quality and smart design that don’t feel cheap in all ways. The white matte plastics feel good in the hand while a chamfered corners add a touch of quality. It has a little lightweight when compared to the previous Wyze Cam. The base is a little smaller than the camera body but the device remains quite stable on the desktop. The camera has a threaded hole at the bottom of its base that fits the standard screw found on tripod mounts make it can be mounted from the ceiling.

At the day, Wyze Cam Pan delivers 1080p HD high-quality images with balanced, saturated and stunning clarity. Like other smart cams we’ve tested this year, it also had overexposure issue when too much light has hit the camera. Wyze Cam Pan provides a fair viewing range thanks to the 120-degree wide angle lens that give a generous view of the room. And at the night, we were again impressed by reasonably clear and sharp images, which were better than some expensive models.

We really like how incredibly responsive when panning and tilting, either by using a circular direction pad or swiping on a smartphone. Panning introduced temporary image pixilation but it was quickly corrected once the camera refocused. Wyze Cam Pan also supports automated features, including an adjustable Pan Scan mode, which set the camera’s patrol route with up to 4 custom waypoints, and Motion Tracking, which follows detected movement in real time around the room. However, these exciting features seem to have worked reasonably well at times.

We found that the automatic tracking will no longer work when we enabling both Pan Scan and Motion Tracking modes simultaneously. The Motion Tracking works properly only with slow-moving objects. It frequently lost to track fast-moving objects which led to randomly spun away to point in an arbitrary direction. We believe that the Wyze Labs knows this problem and already have a plan to tweak the camera’s algorithm to fine-tune motion tracking in the future.

Wyze Cam Pan Notifications

Wyze Cam Pan has the ability to automatically record a short alert video when it detects motion or sounds. And it did a good job of alerting us to potential threats within seconds of detection. Two-way audio gives you peace of mind, listen and talk to anyone you care through it with reasonably clear audio while not at home. It also packs with bonus features like free cloud storage and local SD card recordings up to 32GB make the Wyze Cam Pan delivers significantly greater value than many competitors.
