David vs Goliath!
This thing is just INCREDIBLE. I drive an old 3.0L six cylinder engine that take s a fair but to crank, and this thing does it with ease.. Not just once, but 2, 3 4 and 5 times before it even goes down to 75% battery level. Crazy that once I needed a massive Jump Pack, and now this, including the cables fits into a small men's wash bag. (Exactly what I keep it in under the seat). Astonishingly good. Time will tell if it lives up to the Life expectancy, but so far so good! If you have a big engine car, this thing will jump it. You only need the higher Ampage model if you're starting massive engines. Most cars will be brought to life with this, no probs.. Charging is quick too. I advise you to get a PortaPow micro USB (full speed charger cable, data blocked) for it and a proper 2.4a USB charger, and it will be fully charged from flat in 3 hours. Don't hesitate. Get it. Had to use this product for the first time yesterday, it failed to start our transit 2500 cc diesel until i used the boost mode and that kicked her into life maybe i should have gone for the GB70 this booster is both over rated and over priced I'm sorry but we have to be honest on here, therefore i cannot recommend this product. stick with the big heavy boosters that have a lead acid battery, as they do the job just fine. UPDATE my wife has just used this booster on her Peugeot 206 and it burst into life the car had not been running for six weeks she loves the light weight safety features and ease of use. so that's my mothers day prezzie taken care of. as for me i may well try the GB70 for our minibus

Buying cheep is not always best
I've seen a lot of units that are not as well put together as this one, size is good and quality is very good. i haven't had to use it yet to start my car but my friend used his to start his 2.5 d with no problems.

Could not start 4.6 litre petrol engine
Product was supposed to jump start petrol vehicles up to 6 litres, It could not start my 4.6 litre petrol engine. It lit up dashboard and interior lights but did not have power/quality to start the engine. I tried it on the contact points under the bonnet, would not start. Then I removed all the boot floor and attached it direct to the battery and it still would not start the vehicle. To be fair the return procedure and refund were easy to process.

Jump starting a Volvo semi truck with NOCO GB70 2000 amp lithium Ion battery
How to jump start a semi truck About a week after this video I ran out of battery again on the truck, and tried the NOCO again, this time only the GB 70 at first, it cranked the engine on the truck ( 3-4 times between 3 and 5 seconds at the time), but given that the truck was sitting in - 18 Celsius for 3 days it didn't started, so I helped out by hooking again the car battery for about 10 - 15 minutes and presto my truck was up and running again. I am convinced that in slightly milder temperatures like -5 celsius and above the GB 70 would have no problem starting the truck by itself, and it is cheaper than the GB 150 or roadside assistance! ;)

Jump Starter Buying Guide
Every vehicle owner should be prepared for a battery failure. It could happen at home or on the road, but eventually, it will happen. Car batteries have a finite life span and don’t always show clear signs they’re weakening.
Your safety is important. Being stuck on the side of the road in a car with a dead battery in the middle of winter is more than an inconvenience, it could be deadly. Before you venture far from home again, consider investing in a Jump starter.
They’re affordable, easy to use and may come with other features that could bail you out of a variety of tough circumstances.
Let’s look at the types that are available today to help you choose the best model for your needs.
What is a Jump Starter?
A Jump starter, or battery pack, is a battery substitute. When your car battery dies, a jump starter kick starts your car’s alternator long enough to get it running. The alternator then recharges your battery as you drive if there’s any life left it in. If not, you’ll be out of luck the next time you try to start it. Most drivers are familiar with the concept of using one car’s battery to start another via a set of jumper cables, but there are now safe and convenient portable jump starters that can go anywhere with you and get your car moving again when your battery is dead.
Jump Starter versus Batty Charger or Battery Maintainer
When choosing a car jump starter, it’s important to not confuse it with a battery charger or maintainer. A decade ago, it was common to refer to battery chargers as jump starters, but where battery chargers slow charge dead or depleted batteries, a Jump starter actually starts your car. Some battery chargers were made with the capability to jump start as well, but these units are typically too large to be considered portable and they don’t all have this feature.
Like battery chargers, maintainers are also used to charge batteries. As opposed to the slow charge, however, maintainers quick-charge batteries and are usually used to keep cells in storage from losing power as they sit. They cannot, however, be used to jump start a car.
Types of Jump Starters
There are two types of jump starters — lead-acid and lithium.
A lead-acid jump starter is simply a 12 volt car-type battery in a case with a set of jumper cables attached. It’s the larger and heavier of the two types as well as being older in design. Lead-acid jump starters have more power than lithium battery packs and often come with additional features such as small air compressors and DC ports to power select appliances in a power outage or other emergency.
Lithium jump starters are the newest generation of portable power for your car and consist of a lithium battery pack and jumper cables. These are small enough to put in your glove compartment, but aren’t as strong and can’t be used as auxiliary power sources for anything but small electronics; however, a pocket size pack with the right capacity can both start your car’s engine and recharge your cell phone if you get into trouble on the road. Since they’re smaller than lead-acid battery packs, integrated features are usually limited to built-in flashlights.
The biggest difference between the two types is performance. Since they’re most like your car’s battery, lead-acid battery packs can jump start vehicles in nearly every condition including extreme heat and cold.
Lithium jump starters claim to do the same and they’re improving, but independent testing shows they are more vulnerable to changes in temperature, a problem inherent with lithium batteries, and may not have enough power to start a car in the deep cold. Still, if the 15 to 20 pound weight of a lead-acid pack isn’t for you, a portable lithium jump starter is an alternative.
Jump Starter Features
When evaluating battery packs, the most important considerations are cranking capacity and the quality of the components. A jump starter must supply enough electrical current to initiate the starter. If it's underpowered, your car won't start.
When jump starters tend to fail is when they’re not large enough to provide the right amount of current or if the attached cables aren’t of the best quality. Let’s look at how to choose the best jump starter.
Jump Starter Size/Capacity
An average car battery produces 400-500 cold crank amps, but for starting large vehicles or any vehicle in freezing temperatures, it’s not uncommon to need at least 30 percent more than that. This is because cold slows down the chemical reactions in the battery that produce electricity as well as makes engine oil thicker, resulting in more friction against engine parts. An underpowered jump starter will not start your car.
It’s hard to know exactly how many cold-cranking amps, or CCA, you’ll need to start a dead battery since that depends on the battery’s condition and other factors including temperature.
Jump starters come in ranges from 300 CCCA for a very small car on a warm day to nearly a thousand for a truck or SUV on a cold day. Peak amps, the maximum amount of power the jump starter can produce is not equivalent to cranking amps and is a poor measure of the starting capacity.
The important part to remember is that large jump starters cannot harm a small car’s battery, but a small jump starter may fail to start a larger car. If price isn’t a concern, buy the largest CCA charger you can afford.
Components and Features
Jump starters come with a variety of secondary features and when all else is equal, they’re a plus, but in addition to size (CCA) capacity, the most important feature to consider is the quality of the jumper cables attached.
The jaws, ideally, should be solid copper to optimally conduct electricity. Cheap models, however, come with jaws that are aluminum and only coated with copper. If they get dinged or scratched, it’s a recipe for failure and if the crimps aren’t deep enough to bite though corrosion on battery terminals, it’s unlikely to work at all. Jumper cable length is the other important factor. If for whatever reason, access to your car’s battery is limited by physical obstacles, it may be tough to work with a pack with short cables. Carefully consider your potential circumstances.
Recommendations
For most people, lead-acid battery packs with at least 500 CCA are ideal, but look for more in cold climates.
If space or weight is a problem, a lithium pack in the size is a good second choice, but check with the manufacturer about storage requirements. Older lithium battery packs can explode when stored in hot conditions such as an enclosed glove compartment during an Arizona heat wave.
Buying and Use Tips
- Ignore peak amp ratings; look for cold-cranking amps. - Choose packs with on-board cable storage. - Extra features are always a plus, especially jump starters with a DC outlet and air compressor. - Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Not doing so could result in electrical burns. - Jaws with a rubberized or plastic coating on the handles improve comfort and can prevent burns if the starter is accidentally misused. - Look for cables at least as long as the length of your car or longer. - Remember to remove the jumper cables from the battery as soon as the car is started to prevent damage to your starter pack.
Maintaining and replacing your vehicle’s battery as recommended is the best prevention against failure, but keeping a jump starter in your car is the next best thing. You’re worth it.
