Lasko Space Heaters – Lasko 754200 Ceramic Heater Review

What makes the Lasko 754200 Ceramic Space Heater The #1 bestselling portable heater on Amazon?

The low price definitely plays a role (it’s under $30). And, for its small size, it produces a lot of heat.

And of course, being portable, the heater can easily be moved into whatever room needs heating.

So let’s look at the Pros and Cons of this specific room heater…

This electric #space heater has three power settings – a low heat option that runs at 900 Watts, a high heat option (with 12 heat settings) that uses 1500 Watts and a fan-only option. A rotary dial on the top of this Lasko heater allows you to select the temperature so you can tune the amount of heat it produces. It’s a small space heater, measuring only 5.75″ X 7″ x 9.2″ which makes it very easy to move from room to room. The Lasko 754200 has an in-built adjustable thermostat that allows you to set when the heater comes on and goes off according to the temperature. This #radiant space heater is ETL listed and UL certified so it’s passed US Government safety checks. In terms of safety, it has automatic overheat protection, so will switch itself off if it gets too hot. It’s quiet though not silent, so there’s no real intrusive noise from it. The power cord is almost 6 feet (2 metres) long, so it allows you to position the heater a decent distance from any power sockets. The exterior of the space heater does not get hot after prolonged use, so there’s no danger of being burned should you brush up against it. The fact that this is a portable heater makes it >

Lasko 754200 Control Dials and Power Light

This Lasko Space Heater is small so it’s best suited to heating small rooms like a bathroom (but only if plugged into a GFCI) or small rooms and bedrooms (up to 15 feet x 15 feet). It won’t heat a full-sized room but would also work well under a desk providing local heat. You need to treat the power and temperature knobs with care, otherwise they might break. There have been reports that the thermostat on this portable electric heater is not as responsive as it could be. The heater may not turn itself off when your set temperature is reached and it may be slow to turn itself back on once the temperature drops below the minimum you set. It’s probably not the safest space heater as it doesn’t automatically shut itself off if it gets knocked over. The heater is not programmable so you cannot set times for when it will come on and go off. Only the thermostat controls when the space heater is on or not (without your direct intervention). If you want a programmable option, you could always plug the heater into an outlet timer. If you need it, you can find the manual online here. This is not an energy efficient heater – space heaters draw a lot of power to convert into heat. It comes with a 2-prong rather than a 3-prong plug. 110-120V operation only. The heater is best placed on a hard surface; putting it on a carpet (depending on the pile) could make it prone to tipping over.

At the 900 watt setting, the Lasko 754200 uses almost 1 Kw/h of energy. How much you pay for electricity will obviously determine how much using this (or any) heater will cost you. But if you live in an area where electricity is $0.10 per Kw/h, you’ll pay a bit less than $0.10 per hour of use. If you live where electricity is more expensive, then you’ll pay more per hour.

At 900 watts, the unit will draw 5.5 amps. At 1,500 watts 12.5 amps will be drawn.

Here’s a good way to get this small #ceramic heater to work at the temperature you want – but it requires a bit of fiddling about with the controls. Turn the left dial to the 900 Watt setting (low heat). Now turn the right dial to the midway point and wait for the room to warm up. If the room is too hot, turn the right dial to the left by one position and wait until the room temperature settles. If the room is still too warm, repeat this step as many times as you need.

If, on the other hand, the room is still too cool for comfort, rotate the right dial one position to the right and wait for the room temperature to settle. If the room is still not warm enough, repeat this step as often as you need to, to get the room as warm as you want.

Now, once the room is at a comfortable temperature, rotate the right dial to the left until the heater turns off. Once the heater cools down, it will turn itself on and repeat this process to keep the room at that comfortable temperature. If you need to tweal the heat a bit, you can always rotate the right dial to the right a small bit.

It’s more fiddly than being able to dial in specific temperature, but a bit of trial and error will have the ceramic heater outputting the amount you heat you need.

5.0 out of 5 stars – The Little Heater That Could

I was skeptical that $20-worth of heater would really hold its own, but after having it for about a week now, I’m thrilled with the purchase. It came highly recommended, and with good reason!

There was a little bit of “new heater smell” right out of the box, but each time I use it I notice less and less of the scent. Definitely not a deterrent for me.

I read the dimensions and knew that the heater would be small, but it’s even more compact than I had pictured. The low setting gets the job done just fine. The high setting gets it done in a flash!

I initially purchased this heater for use in my bathroom so that it wouldn’t be so cold in the room when I was stepping out of the shower. I’ve already found myself toting it around the house for a little additional warmth without having to crank up the whole house furnace. I’m almost always cold, and it only needs to be on for a minute or so on high before I need to turn it down or completely off.

The sound is no different than any other space heater. If you turn it on in complete silence, sure you’re going to think it’s noisy. By comparison to “nothing,” it is. Once you start “living” near it — turn on the shower, watch TV, even if you’re reading — it’s barely noticeable. If you’re not focusing on its sound, it’s just white noise like any other fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars – Great For a Small Room

This is a handy little heater that serves its intended purpose well – heating a small room. I use it to take the chill off my computer room which is not usually heated like the rest of the house since I’m not in there all that often. The unit itself is plastic with a metal grille, but it feels very sturdy and well made. The fan noise level is acceptable. It is far from silent, but is quiet enough that it doesn’t interfere. The controls are straight-forward. One dial is the power dial which has 4 settings: Off – Fan – Low – High. The other dial is the thermostat with an infinite range of settings between – and +. (I’ve found that just below the halfway point is very comfortable, but then again, the winters in California aren’t exactly subarctic)

I’d recommend this for anyone with a small area to heat. a bedroom, computer room, sewing room, etc. (mine’s in a room about 12 foot square). I doubt it would efficiently heat a room that was too much larger.

This year I just plugged this item in for what will be the 5th winter season. It works as great at it did when I bought it. Still a great item and highly recommended.

Overall Impression

Despite being a small portable heater, the Lasko 754200 is still the most popular space heater selling on Amazon today. With over 3,500 reviews, the heater has a 4.1 / 5 rating. That’s a pretty good recommendation from a lot of people!
